Great Weekend At OKC Toy Dog Show

Sherri and I had a great weekend at the Oklahoma City Toy Dog Show. If you’ve been a visitor to Mountain Vista cabin in Beavers Bend, it’s easy to figure out we love dog shows. There’s usually several show dog magazines located throughout the cabin. We love educating people about this great sport.

We’ve been involved in the American Kennel Club (AKC) dog show world for about 20 years. Initially with boxers and now with our pride and joy, “Kula”, a Champion Brussels Griffon. He’s one spoiled little guy and loves being the center of attention at shows.

He was nationally ranked in his breed last year and will soon be again after this weekend’s performance. He earned two Grand Champion Select awards and will be competing next at the Oklahoma City Summer Classic show in June. The OKC Classic is the sixth-largest show in the United States and “Kula” had a few stellar days at the show last year.

AKC dog shows are a great way to learn about various breeds. Many people attend these shows to gather information about their next pet or show dog from the professionals. You can walk backstage at shows and approach handlers as they’re grooming dogs for the ring.

Dog show people are usually very approachable backstage. Engaging handlers just as they’re about to enter the ring isn’t a good idea. That’s when it’s “showtime”. They’re scouting the competition, analyzing the judge and making sure their dog is mentally prepared.

Sherri has handled “Kula” in the ring during every winning point on the way to his championship. He’s now only five-points away from being crowned a Grand Champion.

Summer dates are going fast at Mountain Vista, especially in July. Limited weekdays remain open in June.

Breakfast in Broken Bow

Breakfast in Broken Bow is fantastic at Adam & Eve’s Coffeehouse in Beavers Bend State Park!

I’ve written about this great place a few times previously. We love it.

They have a terrific atmosphere and offer a variety of coffees along with breakfast and lunch specials. I visited with their friendly staff last week and enjoyed their famous Breakfast Burrito…it’s the bomb!

The breakfast burrito was the best I’ve ever had. It was filled with generous portions of eggs and sausage and the service is always fast and impeccable at Adam & Eve’s Coffeehouse.

i devoured the burrito but the waffle was a different story. Look at the size of this thing! I could only finish a small portion of it.

If you’ve arrived in Beavers Bend and forgotten a few essential items, they have a variety of quick-stop products. Browse their nifty souvenir shop in the building while sipping on their delicious coffee.

They’ve updated their menu with new wraps and salads and even offer a kids menu.

Free S’Mores At Mountain Vista

We always feature free s’mores at Mountain Vista!

Others are charging $25 – $40 for generic s’mores. We always have name brand products and occasional extras such as root beer, gourmet coffee and tea.

If you arrive at Mountain Vista and suddenly realize you forgot to pack Starbucks Coffee, no worries. Mountain Vista has a Keurig machine and we offer many Starbucks varieties at no additional charge.

When traveling to Beavers Bend State Park on a budget it’s important to factor in all the add-on fees many cabin companies charge. The initial rate may look low but hold on to your wallet! Charges for firewood, insurance, cleaning and resort fees will increase your nightly payment significantly.

May is a great month for fishing on Broken Bow Lake. I visited with Broken Bow’s superstar fishing guide, Bryce Archey, and he reports smallmouth bass and walleye are hitting his line frequently. Beavers Bend Memorial Day 2015 cabins are in high demand and it is almost too late to reserve a top one.

Holidays and weekends are golden for most upper-end cabins in Broken Bow, OK. There will always be a few cancelations so keep checking the calendar on cabin management websites. Always remember to watch out for hidden fees.

Your last few clicks on a website before reserving a luxury cabin in Beavers Bend are important. This is where the “gotcha’s” sometimes come into play. Fees for insurance, cleaning and resort charges will make an inexpensive cabin sometimes become very costly.

Pay attention to add-on fees in Beavers Bend before reserving your luxury cabin.

Broken Bow Lake visitors are enjoying fantastic spring weather this week. Just because warmer temperatures have arrived in Beavers Bend, there is no need for your pocketbook to become overheated because of needless luxury cabin fees.

A plethora of cabin management companies are charging over 20% for add-on fees in Beavers Bend. These wallet-stuffing surcharges include cleaning, insurance, firewood and resort fees. We never gouge guests with these fees at Mountain Vista.

Scores of luxury cabin owners and visitors have told us they appreciate Broken Bow cabin renting tips like this on our blog. We feel add-on fees in Beavers Bend are unnecessary. “We moved here from Memphis in 1997 after logging many miles driving to DeQueen, Arkansas, where we were having Willow Furniture built for our wholesale showrooms. One day driving back to Memphis, we decided everything was so beautiful we should just move here. We called a realtor and told him we had to have a place where we could immediately go to work; no time to build. He said he had the perfect place. We were coming the next weekend to pick up furniture and had a look. It was so perfect it scared us. After thinking about it, we called the realtor and declined. A couple of months later, the realtor called and invited us to stay at the ranch by ourselves as it was still furnished but unoccupied. We accepted and knew immediately it was perfect,” Peggy said.

The weather in Beavers Bend hasn’t been very kind to Spring Break visitors this week. We love watching the storms roll in from 20-miles away high atop our deck!

Weekends are filling quickly at Mountain Vista cabin in Broken Bow but April 9-12 just became available. We only have a handful of weekend dates open until August. Summer weekdays are also beginning to fill.

If you are looking for Beavers Bend Spring Break tips, you have come to the right place!

Broken Bow luxury cabins are packed for two weeks every March. Most schools in Oklahoma and Texas have separate Spring Break weeks. This is always the official kickoff to a busy tourist season in Beavers Bend State Park.

It is tough to fit in all the activities available in our area in only a few days. Hopefully these Beavers Bend Spring Break tips will enhance your stay in the Kiamichi Mountains.

1. Download the Beavers Bend App we created. It gives you loads of information and local tourist tips. Nearly every phone number or website you will need is located on the app. We also give our thousands of app fans periodic VIP specials.

2. Drive the speed limit. Law enforcement will be out in droves on Broken Bow Lake, in town and throughout Beavers Bend State Park. No heavy-footing the gas pedal, thus forcing you to contribute to the Broken Bow Municipal coffers!

3. Visit Adam and Eve’s Coffee House. We love this place! They feature tremendous coffee along with great breakfast and lunches. There is no place in Broken Bow that offers better service. This coffee shop would be a huge hit in Oklahoma City or Dallas.

4. Hire “The Broken Bow Lake Guide.” Bryce Archey is the most popular guide in the area. I enjoyed a few outings with him last year and have more booked for 2015.

5. Eat at Shady Oaks Restaurant. They have the best burgers in Beavers Bend. Their catfish dinner is tremendous.

6. Visit Girls Gone Wine. This popular winery is a huge hit with Broken Bow tourists. They feature a variety of wines and you can even make your own batch.

7. Hike the David Boren Trail. The trail features scenic bluffs and terrain to challenge the novice or experienced hiking enthusiast.

8. Play Cedar Creek Golf Course. This 18-hole gem receives stellar reviews from our guests at Mountain Vista cabin.

9. Rent a boat from Beavers Bend Marina. They offer a variety boats to suit your needs. Make sure to reserve early and Spring Break is a peak time on Broken Bow Lake.

10. Enjoy dinner at Abendigo’s. This has been a favorite upscale restaurant for many years in our area. We always hear great reviews from our cabin guests after an outing to Abendigo’s.
